The
Mumbai animation studio is spread over a state-of-the-art
22,000 sq. ft. facility in an ultra-modern
technology park in the northern suburb of Malad
in Mumbai. Designed for 400 artists, the studio
boasts of several creative and collaborative
spaces including an ideation room, an amphitheatre,
a video-conference room and open cubicles for
creative directors and overseas supervisors.
The lighting and compositing department works
in a specially darkened room. Employees have
access to a canteen and a gym. The entire work
area is secured by fingerprint access. The Delhi animation studio, opened in early 2008, has a capacity of 60 artists and is currently engaged in working on an international TV series.
MELs technology is based on a design white
paper created by Intel in 2003. Dual-processor
Intel workstations are connected by GbE Ethernet
to online and near-line NAS storage and render
farm blade servers. High speed Cisco and Foundry
switches form the backbone of the network.
The majority of the machines are located inside
four secure machine rooms and piped to the
individual desktops.
MEL has recently become a reference site for
the new Windows Compute Cluster OS and also
uses Windows XP and Windows Server. Software
used includes Autodesk Maya, 3D Studio Max,
After Effects, Photoshop and Digital Fusion.
This is supplemented by Final Cut Pro edit
suites for lineups and reviews. Our render
farm consists of over 50 blade servers and
a number of CPU and GPU servers.
A high speed internet line and FTP servers
connect us to our clients.
